WWE Wrestling: The Attitude Era
The Attitude Era is one of the best eras in the world of professional wrestling, I’m sure many of you would agree to that statement. And I am absolutely and positively sure that an epoch’s worth of today’s professional wrestling can ever replace, surpass or be equivalent with what once was the Attitude Era.
So what actually is the attitude era and why was it so great? The Attitude Era is a period of time in the WWE (then WWF or World Wrestling Federation) wherein hell was raised to be the best in the industry and mainly to compete over television rating against WCW (World Championship Wrestling). The said era (Attitude Era) made pro-wrestling fans habituated to nothing but the best, I feel that Attitude Era spoiled many fans (including myself), to the extent that its quite hard to let go of it even in memory, like the way you can’t forget your first real kiss, or that time Mick Foley clapped your hand as he made his entrance. Let me give you a few simple reasons why the Attitude Era is simply the best era in the world of Professional Wrestling.
- Vince Russo. Before you get your panties up in a bunch, take time to think about what the guy did. Sure he is pretty much a major jerk, but without him, we wouldn’t have these great memories of the Attitude Era, we wouldn’t have Stone Cold being cold as ice, and we wouldn’t have The Rock as the most electrifying man and we wouldn’t have DX telling the bad guys to “suck it!” No sir, we wouldn’t have all those, if it wasn’t for Russo. Vince Russo was the head writer, and he came up with adult oriented themes in order to rake TV ratings against WCW.
- Vince McMahon. Yet again, don’t get your panties up in a bunch. This guy topped our spaghetti and meatballs with delicious cheese. He was the bossy Boss and he kept things grounded because he was the ruler that everyone else wanted to disobey. We may have loved Stone Cold the same if he there wasn’t a Vince McMahon to irritate and beat up but the truth is, it was much more intoxicating to watch because of Vine McMahon.
- Stone Cold Steve Austin. Sure there were a bunch of superstars during the Attitude Era, but none of them was as kick-arse as Austin was. In fact, when I hear Attitude Era, he is the one that ultimately comes up my mind. He was a beer guzzling, gutter mouthing, arse whooping hell raiser that everyone loves. He was never apologetic no matter what kind of crap he causes, and that’s another reason why he is stapled in the industry.
- The Hardy Boyz. Everyone saw Hardy Boyz as a duo that represented the youth, and how they wanted to rule in the industry. These boys were the perfect match for the other male dup, Edge and Christian, and they all made Attitude Era even more daring and dynamic.
- Degeneration X. Yes they were arse-whoopingly cool, they made ganging up look good and righteous, but apart from all of these, the group represented brotherhood in the industry. DX showed that it is always good to have someone else’s back, and to have your back secured by someone else.
